Learning the Ancient Practise
of Agnihotra

Agnihotra is an ancient Vedic practice that involves fire, an inverted copper pyramid and the resonance of primordial Sanskrit mantras. Oh, and cow dung. It is performed at sunrise and sunset daily, and intends to purify and balance both our internal and external atmospheres.

At the end of December last year, Lee and Frits from Om Shree Dam travelled to Newcastle to kindly teach our community this Vedic super science.

Lee & Frits are embodied and passionate teachers, who have practised Agnihotra for decades. They passed down the wisdom with such love and care that almost all of us got kits and started practising straight away.

“Practising Agnihotra daily brings a deep sense of calm. It calms the dogs, and has become a whole family event; Due to the way it makes us feel.” — Jared Cox

And I couldn’t agree more. This practise naturally cultivates deep silence and stillness.

During Agnihotra, the mind effortlessly falls quiet as the body softens and our awareness is drawn into the present moment. I feel the energy both within and around me become more organised, less chaotic, and I find inner peace. This peacefulness is often quickly reflected in nature, and it feels as though time slows and the moment is whole. Full. Even if only for a few minutes.

And of course, the practise of Agnihotra is very complementary to Vedic meditation, particularly when practised precedently. Agnihotra helps to naturally deepen and enhance our experience in meditation, as we are able to more easily slip into that state of dhyāna, moving beyond dhāraṇā (concentration) and beyond our individuality, remembering our unbounded, universal nature.

Another tool to support evolution, and the creation of a beautiful life centered in love, grounded in Being.

Thank you Lee & Frits for inspiring and connecting with our community.
